A map is very helpful when we locate unknown places. It gives us the proper direction to where our destination is and how we can reach our destination. It is our guide when we get lost. It has important information of the place where you want to go such as landmarks, no. of kilometers, signs and arrows. To better understand the map legends , color coding, labels and names of the places are in place.
A map is a visual representation of an area—a symbolic depiction highlighting relationships between elements of that space such as objects, regions, and themes.
What are the different kinds of maps?
• Aeronautical chart is a map designed to assist in navigation of aircraft. Using these charts and other tools pilots are able to determine their position, safe altitude, best route to a destination, navigation aids along the way, alternative landing areas in case of an in-flight emergency, and other useful information such as radio frequencies and airspace boundaries.

• A cartogram is a map in which some thematic mapping variable – such as travel time or Gross National Product – is substituted for land area or distance. The geometry or space of the map is distorted in order to convey the information of this alternate variable. There are two main types of cartograms: area and distance cartograms.
• A geologic map or geological map is a special-purpose map made to show geological features. Rock units or geologic strata are shown by color or symbols to indicate where they are exposed at the surface. Bedding planes and structural features such as faults, folds, foliations, and lineations are shown with strike and dip or trend and plunge symbols which give these features' three-dimensional orientations.
• A compass rose, sometimes called a windrose, is a figure on a map, a nautical chart or a paving (as built in Dougga, Tunis, during Roman times) used to display the orientation of the cardinal directions, - north, south, east, and west. It is also the term for the graduated markings found on the traditional magnetic compass.
• In architecture and building engineering, a floor plan, or floorplan, is a diagram, usually to scale, showing the relationships between rooms, spaces and other physical features at one level of a structure.
When we travel around the globe we carry a printed map, with the evolution of iPod Touch, we enjoy it from a handy iPod Touch.
The iPod Touch is a portable media player, personal digital assistant, and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc.
iPod Touch is a perfect gadget that enables you to experience a whole new way of communicating friends, enjoy the most fantastic way of listening to music and faster and easy to browse a web. Three of the many great features of iPod Touch are Face Time video calling, Retina Display and HD video recording and editing. Video calling - this feature lets two people with 3G video phones talk to each other while viewing 2-way live video of each other. This is the exciting newest feature of iPod Touch. The Retina display on iPod touch brings out the awesome in anything on it. That’s because it’s the highest-resolution iPod screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPod models. Because your iPod touch has built-in HD video camera, you’re always ready to record when the moment strikes. And now you can do it in stunning high definition. An advanced backside illumination sensor delivers brilliant video in both bright and low-light settings.
Find yourself and what’s around you
You’re always in the middle of somewhere. And iPod touch finds exactly where using known Wi-Fi hotspots. If you’re trying to make a plan, or a Plan B, it also finds points of interest by keyword: Search for “coffee” and iPod touch shows cafes near you. So you’ll get lost only if you really want to.
Map it out
Forget having to stop and get directions. Just ask your iPod touch. Use a Wi-Fi connection and simply type in an address and get directions from wherever you are. Choose the method of transportation — car, public transit, or walking — and view a list of turn-by-turn directions. See a highlighted map route with estimated travel time. You can also mark specific locations and find the best route between them. So your plans, and your pride, can stay intact.
Change your point of view
Just like Google Maps on your computer, Maps on iPod touch lets you switch between views of Google map data, satellite images, and a hybrid of both. Multi-Touch makes the difference. Tap to zoom, pan, and change your view on the move.
Be unstuck in traffic
There’s nothing worse than hitting the road only to get caught in traffic. Plan ahead with Maps on iPod touch and your Wi-Fi connection. Maps shows you live traffic information, indicating traffic speed along your route in easy-to-read green, red, and yellow highlights. Happier trails to you.
